Jeronimo Privacy

Jeronimo turns your voice into text on your Mac. This page says what stays on your Mac, every time the app contacts a server and why, and what this website and our mailbox do with your information. It describes the app as it ships today.

What stays on your Mac

Your voice is turned into text on your Mac. Dictation audio is never saved. A meeting’s audio is saved on the Mac that recorded it while the transcript is written, and deleted afterwards; it never leaves that Mac. Your dictations, meeting transcripts and summaries, personal dictionary, snippets, and history are files in your own Library folder. If you let Jeronimo name meetings from your calendar, it reads the titles, times, and attendee names of your events on your Mac and keeps the matching event’s title and attendee names with the meeting; it writes nothing to your calendars. The history and meeting files are left out of Time Machine and are readable by your account alone; the dictionary and the snippets are small and stay in your backups. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to.

When the app contacts a server

Jeronimo makes two kinds of connection, both of which you can see and switch off in Settings. Nothing else in the app contacts a server.

Two more connections are made by macOS, not by Jeronimo. If you choose Apple Speech as the speech recognizer and click Set Up Apple Speech, macOS may contact Apple to check for or download its speech recognizer; that carries none of your audio or text. And while iCloud sync is on, Apple’s notification service tells your Mac when something changed on another of your Macs; that notice carries none of your content. The speech recognizer included with Jeronimo is inside the app and never downloads anything; the library it comes from names a download site in its code, which Jeronimo never contacts.

iCloud sync

Off until you turn it on, in Settings, iCloud. With it on, your dictionary, snippets, and the settings that describe how you dictate, and if you choose, your dictations and meetings with their transcripts and summaries, including a meeting’s calendar event title and attendee names when it was named from your calendar, Activity’s numbers, and the icons of the apps you dictated into or recorded meetings from, are kept in your own iCloud account, in its private database, which only your devices can read. Incipit Labs cannot read it. Meeting audio never syncs. Turning sync off keeps everything on your Mac as it is.

Connected apps and the Claude plugin

Off until you turn it on, in Settings, Privacy. With the switch on, and only while Jeronimo is running, an app you connect, such as Claude, can read your transcripts through a helper inside Jeronimo, on your Mac. Share decides what it may read: meetings, dictations, or both. Any meeting or dictation you mark Don’t share is never handed out. The helper reads your files; it does not send them anywhere itself. What a connected app reads becomes part of your conversation with that app, under that app’s own terms, so connect only apps you trust. The Jeronimo plugin for Claude works the same way: it runs on your Mac, sends nothing anywhere, and keeps nothing.

This website

jeronimo.app is served by Cloudflare, which handles the connection to your browser. The site has no analytics, no tracking, no cookies, and no scripts that contact other servers; the one script on the home page runs the typing demo in your browser and nothing else. Jeronimo keeps no log of visits.

Mail to help@jeronimo.app

Mail you send to help@jeronimo.app is delivered to a mailbox that Incipit Labs reads, kept for as long as it takes to answer you and to keep track of what was reported, and never shared or sold. A problem report from the app is an email you write from your own mail app after reading it; it carries no dictated text and no audio.

Age

Jeronimo is not intended for people under 18.
